Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18

Borders provide boundaries. Lines provide direction. Without either, vision for the present and proceeding days to come is impaired.

As much as I like the freedom of the path less traveled, if anyone else of significance shall come that way, borders and lines will have to be skillfully added to the equation.
